Flipping off the notion of inequality

by Mthobisi Magagula

The Justice for Thabani saga in Eswatini has created a buzz on social media platforms especially touching the youth following the demise of UNESWA Law student Thabani Nkomonye on suspicion that his death was linked to a police officer.

The above statement marks the definition of Inequality in the police force because a police officer can easily break the rules designed to protect citizens and the reputation of the police by taking matters in their own hands through the use of guns.

Nkomonye’s death according to reliable sources to the matter was caused by a police officer who killed an unarmed man late at night and further dumped his body.

Police brutality is everywhere , Eswatini has recently experienced it. To make matters worse, there was no description of Thabani’s vehicle or filling to indicate that this was an inside job and the person responsible has to face the music and not let off unpunished.

Eswatini youth formed a March to Manzini in support of the #justiceforthabani protest who’s death reeked of police brutality.

As a concerned citizen of Eswatini, I strongly feel that the culprit should be suspended from work and jail time should be considered by the judge who will review the matter.

The justice system in Eswatini needs to take it’s course and ensure justice & Equality are observed , practiced and adhered to even by those who are suppose to enforce the law instead of breaking it.
