Otters In Space!

Wayward Distractions and Quantum Astrophysicists Guild made an otter-tastic puzzle platforming game coming to all platforms on March 18th.

Indie developer Wayward Distractions and publisher The Quantum Astrophysicists Guild created an otter-centric puzzle platformer set in the 2500s. After depleting the Earth of all of its resources and leaving all animals to fend for themselves, multiple rafts came together to fall in the footsteps of the very humans that left them behind and attempt to emulate them and build their spaceship. After two attempts to leave Earth (Mission Alpha and Mission Bravo) failed, the advanced group of otters, with other animal friends' help, became successful on attempt number three. Mission Charlie saw this group of otters to space as they trek to find another habitable planet to survive.

As you can see from the image above, the art in this title is absolutely amazing. Most indie games leave a lot to be desired for the art department, but the artists who worked on this game did a fantastic job. The paneling in all of the dialogue scenes is blended really well with the rest of the art surrounding it and makes the game feel like an interactive comic book during parts where loads of dialogue would put most players off. All other art, outside of the dialogue paneling, must be praised as well. This game’s art is very reminiscent of other indie titles with hand-drawn art. Not to mention, the way the otters were designed to look is adorable and makes the game more enjoyable.

Levels in this game are pretty long, which may not provide a lot of replayability to some players. Still, for those who enjoy long-form puzzles to help them reach a goal and accomplish a task, you will be pleased with the amount of time that the developers put in to make it not only fun but challenging at the same time. As you zip through these levels, you must learn how to navigate a tiny little otter in zero gravity. This can be difficult at first, having to learn how to jump from surface to surface while using a jetpack to help you reach your next destination, but once you get the hang of it, you will glide along in space without any major issues.
