ERG at the workplace and home

What is ERG? It is Empathy, Recognition and Gratitude. Given the COVID-19 virus situation, workplaces have changed for many of us. People who can work from home have all been advised to work from home.

When you are working from home, show empathy to your colleagues, customers, partners who are also working from home by being flexible to meetings and working times. If they or their friends or relatives are affected, be supportive. Also show empathy to your family at home by understanding that they also have to do what they have to do and give time and space for that. When you work from home, unless you are disciplined to take a break from work, you may end up working more. Be disciplined and take out time for family. It is also the time to spend quality time with family.

When you work from home, encourage your team members for their work more often than you do at work. When you go to work you see people at water coolers and lunch places and have small talk. But when you work from home, you need to put in extra effort to stay connected with your team and appreciate them more for their work to keep everyone positive and committed. Be over generous in recognition and appreciation. Make it a point to appreciate at least one peer or team member or manager every day. Everyone can use a bit of positivity in life with so much negative news in the air. Recognize your family members work and appreciate them at least once a day.

Say thanks to your peers or team members at least once a day. Show your gratitude to your team, manager and your family.

Practicing ERG now will create a positive workplace and home.
